Full Circle

Respond to the following discussion prompts specifically and thoroughly. Use actual details from the novel to explain/support your reasoning. 1. What is your opinion of Amir now, at the conclusion on the novel? How has your opinion or respect of Amir changed or developed since the beginning? 2. Explain the significance and symbolism of Amir running the kite for Sohrab at the end of the novel. How does this represent a "full circle" in Amir's life? 3. Would Baba be proud of Amir now? Explain why or why not. 4. What is your opinion of the novel as a whole? Explain your likes, dislikes, connections, etc.

Good Again?

Describe Amir's life in America. Has it been successful? Fulfilling? After chapter 16, what are your thoughts on Amir's struggle with his own guilt at this point in the novel? How has your opinion changed about him since he was a boy in Kabul? Do you think he can "be good again?" Why or why not?

Hassan, the Kite Runner

At the end of chapter 7, Amir witnesses the attack and rape of Hassan after Hassan has run down the final kite of the tournament for Amir. Why doesn't Hassan give Assef the kite? Why doesn't Amir step in or help? What is Amir thinking as he witnesses this horrible act of abuse? Discuss your opinion of Amir's actions AND your opinions of Hassan and his actions.

Merely Amir?

Discuss your initial thoughts on Amir, our narrator, so far in the story. How do you feel about how he views his father? How would you characterize/describe how he views/treats Hassan? Is he a "likable" or relatable character for you so far? Why or why not?

Give Some Thanks

What are 5 things in your life that you are thankful for? Why? Also, what are five things in life you are thankful YOU DON'T HAVE? Why?

Why YOU?

Imagine you're applying for a job and I'm (Mr. Brindle) your prospective employer. Explain to me why I should hire you over anyone else. What qualities, traits, skills, etc. do you possess that would show you're more deserving than any other applicant. Make a case for YOU.

Who do you think you are?

Society defines you all as "Young Adults." Is that true? Are you really almost an adult, or are you closer to being a "youngster?" Define what you think it means to be a mature adult and discuss how close, or far, you are from reaching that stage of life.

Reality Check

In two months and 6 days it will be 2019 already. You're almost 1/3 of the way through your final year of high school. How's it going? Are you meeting your expectations so far? Yes? No? Why or why not? What are you hoping for the next 2/3 of the year? Provide some reflections on your current senior reality.

Another Day in (Your) Paradise

Describe your ideal day. if you had the opportunity to live a "perfect" day, according to your wishes, what would that look like? Walk us through from getting up in the morning to going to bed at night. What is your perfect day?

A Little R & R

Rant and Rave! Pick something, anything, that really "grinds your gears" and get it off your chest right here, right now. Rant away! Be appropriate and don't use specific names, but express a frustration or pet peeve or any "steam" you need to let loose of.

High Five

Compose a list of the top-5 greatest "somethings" in your life. Top-5 greatest meals? Greatest movies? Greatest days? Greatest songs? The only "requirement" is that you provide a brief (one or two sentence) descriptor of each item.

Do you believe this?

What do you believe in? Create of list of 10 /statements/things that you strongly believe in. Begin each with the phrase "I firmly believe..." For Example: 1. I firmly believe the Cubs will win the series again. 2. I firmly believe Taco John's Potato Oles are the singularly greatest fast-food item ever. 3. I firmly it's better to be kind than "right" sometimes.
